"Half a Ballad of Samuel Pearl" tells the story of my first visit to San Francisco in 1970. The whole experience was magic! Samuel Pearl is the name of the violin player in the song. He was still there playing his violin when I moved there three years later. This song is one we performed on the "Love and Moonlight Tour."

"Freezing in the Sun, Burning in the Rain" tells my story at the age of thirty-something, trying to figure out just who in the blip I am. It was a distracted and wilderness time. I'm glad I got this song out of it, and how to love through those times even when you don't know who you are. It is also from the "Love and Moonlight Tour."

"In the Stillness" was written in 1999 or thereabout. I had been practicing Centering Prayer for a while and was falling in love with the contemplative tradition. This is my love song from that time. This song closed my set on the "Love and Moonlight Tour."

Sketches for Mom and Dad

Youtube
This clarinet and string quintet was written in 2004 for a concert given in honor of my father, Ralph Streano on May 8 of that year. The piece has three movements, "Passion!" the first movement, I wrote to honor my mother as a passionate young woman in her own right as well as honoring the love in their marriage. The second movement is "Mourning," honoring the struggles that our family went through when my father passed in 1963. The third movement is "The Singing Italian." I like to think of my dad as he would often sing, whistle. or play his clarinet or violin as he walked through the house, never far from some melody. Music fueled his life. This piece was performed at the Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Vista, CA. as a piece in one of their Summer Concert Series. Performers are: Charles Ellis - MacCleod: Clarinet Missy Lukin - violin Maria Joy Woods - violin Linda Piatt - viola Erin Breene - cello Francyl Gawryn - composer
