Beloved

Francyl Gawryn

In cart Not available Out of stock

Songs to soothe the soul and soar the Spirit! A collection of personal and fresh inspiration with soaring melodies and engaging lyrics.

This collection of songs ranges from pieces I've written starting in the 1970's up to the present. Recorded At Abbey Road Studios in August of 2019, this represents a short group of pieces that I've wanted to record for some time now. They represent not only different eras of my life, but also different facets of my personal spiritual journey. "Beloved" is an unabashed love song to God, expressing an intimacy and warmth that, frankly, I wish I always felt!. "I Cannot See Your Face" written sometime in the 1970's, highlights my desire to see those angels who watch over us at all times. "If You Will Walk Toward the Light" was inspired by the Gospel of John, Chapter 12:35-36. I found peace and strength there during a harrowing time of my life. "The Highlands of Heaven" comes from one of my favorite early American Folk Spirituals. The melody is an ancient Gaelic air, 'Brochan Buirn' and is a variant of the Scottish tune 'Braes o' Balquhidder.' I celebrate my Gaelic roots! 'He Restores My Soul' is my setting of Psalm 23. 'Come Beloved' was inspired by the beautiful desert and mountain landscape that surrounds my home. 'In the Stillness' was written when living in Seattle, exploring the wonders and surprises of contemplative prayer. I hope this little collection brings you some moments of life-giving peace in our harried world.

The Feminine Journey

Francyl Gawryn

In cart Not available Out of stock

A compendium of mixed musical styles including blues, folk, orchestral arrangements, choral settings and guitar and vocal solos taking you through a musical spiritual journey of the feminine soul.

This recording is a journey story of a modern woman who is seeking to find wholeness within herself, in the world around her and with the Sacred. It was conceived as a collaboration between the ancient Greek myth, "Eros and Psyche" and one woman's own personal spiritual journey story. It is being used as a template for a workshop with other women who might like to explore their own spiritual journey story and discover the spiritual riches hidden in the secret places of everyday life. It takes you on a tour through the delightful, the harrowing, the mystical and the very ordinary everyday experience of the feminine soul as seen through the eyes of the composer. As you listen, you will be invited to take the hand of the innocent maiden child, the wild adolescent, the bold young woman, the exasperated and distracted mother, the lost middle aged woman and the wise crone, and lead all of them to a place of home and peaceful rest.

Peaceful Kingdom

Francyl Streano

In cart Not available Out of stock

A fun collection of original and traditional gospel tunes performed at conferences from around the country in the late 1970s.

It is a treat to be able to release this recording once again. After listening to it many times, I decided to put it out there, despite its many limitations, as a celebration of those early years. Marvin Gawryn plays congas and Vern Grimsley plays back up guitar on most of the songs including some dubbed-in tracks he recorded after the live recordings were made. To some degree, this is also a historical record of some of those early times. If you were there and have a story about any of these live performances that you 'd like to relate, I'd love to hear from you. Enjoy! Blessings, Francyl

Singer/songwriter Francyl Gawryn sings about Spirit and Earth. Solo female voice, guitar, bass, flute, piano and percussion. Ranges from light rock to moody introspective complaint, from soaring inspiration to intimate whispers.

Jan Ekstedt, Violin Joan Harrison, Piano Traff Hubert, Bass Scott Ketron, Drums, Percussion Francyl Gawryn, guitar, Vocal Recorded and mixed at Jack Straw Foundation, Seattle, WA Photo Copyright 1992 by Vince Streano

Francyl began working as a professional performer at the age of 15. She performs in venues from the Tacoma Dome to San Diego's Balboa Park, from Fanueil Hall in Boston to Kerr McGee Plaza in Oklahoma City. Her performances include music for audiences of all ages.

Francyl studied music at Sonoma State College in California, and later received a Paraprofessional Certificate of Training for the Kodaly music method. She taught elementary school music in the Berkeley, Albany and Alameda School Districts for five years. After taking a break to have twin daughters, she moved with her family to Seattle in 1989. She performed professionally in the Puget Sound area and continued studying music at Bellevue Community College.

Between the years of 1979 and 1996 she produced six album-length recordings of her own songs as well as works by others. Two of these recordings are for children, and all are available through her independent label, Streanomusic. She self-published "Speak, My Soul" a book of poetry with 37 of her song texts with beautifully descriptive folk-art cut-out illustrations by Robin Goodfellow.

Over the next 15 years she served as Music Director for Youth Theater Northwest, Children's Choir Director at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Saturday Service Music Director and Hand bell Choir Director at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, Interim Music Director for Redeemer Lutheran Church, and Music Director for the Church of Mary Magdalene, a church for homeless women in Seattle. During her work with the Church of Mary Magdalene, she and nine of her choir members traveled to Washington D.C. to sing her song, "Carry The Witness, Honor The Dream" at the "March Against The Silence" in October of 1996. This march, from the Washington Monument, down the Mall to the Capitol Building, was organized to raise awareness about domestic violence in the US. "Carry the Witness, Honor the Dream" is the state anthem for the Washington Silent Witness Project.

Over the last two decades Francyl composed a large body of music for liturgical use for solo vocal/guitar, as well as adult choral works, children's choral works and congregational singing. Her "A Contemporary Requiem" was commissioned and performed at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church in November of 2000.

As a Board Member of Seattle Composer's Alliance, she worked with other members to educate area composers regarding opportunities to further their craft. Through the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program, she collaborated with other composers to produce three film scores. In 2000 she composed the film score for "Curro" with Allison Crook. Francyl and Allison were awarded the Nell Shipman Award for Technical Excellence in that score by Women In Film, Seattle Chapter. In 2002, she collaborated with 5 other composers to produce the film score for the documentary "Behind Barbed Wire" a deeply moving film about the experience of the Bainbridge Island Japanese community before, during and since WWII. In 2006, she collaborated with Penny Lovestedt, Steven Brush, and Tim Huling to compose the film score for "Henry Ward Elliott, Defender of the Fur Seals" a documentary dealing with the threatened extinction of the Northern Fur Seal population on the Pribilof Islands. This film is produced by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.

For 5 years, as Music Specialist for Northwest Child Development Center, Francyl developed and taught her music curriculum for children, ages infant to 5 years old. More recently she produced three CD's of her own compositions and other works. Pondpaddler's Fandango, a CD for children, "Love Songs of Heaven and Earth" and her newest collection, "Songs My Father Taught Me" are all available right here on CD Baby.

Pondpaddler's Fandango

Francyl Gawryn

In cart Not available Out of stock

A delightfully fun collection of songs for toddlers, waddlers, dancers and paddlers to sing along, dance along and paddle along with, sung in Francyl's characteristic clear and lovely voice with arrangements that will get you hoppin'.

About Pondpaddler's Fandango

These songs are gathered from my work of teaching music and singing with the children at Northwest Child Development Center over the last few years. Some are my own creations. Many of these songs are favorites of the children at the center, and at home. It is my hope in making this collection, that parents and children will be encouraged to develop habits of singing, enjoying and making music together. Such habits can contribute to the strength of a rich and wholesome family life as well as encouraging the development of music skills. In addition to singing along, I encourage you and your child to act out the songs, dance with scarves, or play along with any instruments that you may have. At the Center we have used bells, maracas, drums, rhythm sticks, and xylophones. We also explore different ways we can move to the beat as well as passive listening while working at other tasks. I hope you will explore with your children the many wonderful ways that music can enrich your lives together. God bless!
